This Privacy Policy describes how Ellenote ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use ellenote.app and the Ellenote app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.

Notes

Your notes stay on your computer. Documents, attachments, annotations, and version history stay in folders on your machine. Ellenote does not have an account for writing, and it does not upload note contents.

Information we collect

We may collect information you voluntarily provide, such as your name and email address when you contact us. If you buy a license, Stripe processes the payment and receives the email you enter. We store that email, whether the license is active, and how many devices have activated it (up to three).

The community at ellenote.app/community is separate from your notes. To post, you sign in with your email. We store that email, the name you choose, the text of your topics and replies, and a sign-in cookie. Your email is not shown on the topic. Notes, attachments, and version history are not uploaded there.

ellenote.app does not set analytics cookies. The storefront does not ask you to sign in.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Respond to your enquiries and messages
• Run the community: show your name and posts, and email a sign-in code
• Email a short activation code so you can unlock the license on your devices
• Revoke a license if a payment is refunded
• Comply with applicable legal obligations

Data sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Stripe processes the payment. The activation email is sent through SendGrid. We do not receive your card number. We may share data with trusted service providers who assist us in operating the site, provided they agree to keep this information confidential. We may disclose information when required by law.

Data security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Cookies

ellenote.app does not set analytics cookies. Download links are files we host. The buy button opens Stripe Checkout on Stripe's site. After you sign in on the community, the site sets one cookie (ellenote_community) so the next page knows it is you. That cookie is limited to /community, and signing out deletes it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised date. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
